The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice

Trustees have awarded The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice £3,900 to fund training for five of Wisdom Hospice nurses to be able to admit patients, undertake physical examinations and prescribe medication in the acute trust, hospice community.  The Friends support the Hospice by raising money to provide an annual grant, plus those little extras, to ensure patients are as comfortable as possible.

Their aim is to seek out all those who need palliative care and ensure that something is being done to address their needs.

Counselling for young people

The Trustees have agreed to fund North Kent Mind up to £20,000 per year for up to  five years to provide mental health awareness in four schools that serve ME1 and ME2.  In addition, up to £5,000 per year is being made available for one to one counselling should it be needed.

North Kent Mind has experience of taking roadshows out to schools to deliver mental health awareness to assemblies and classrooms. These presentations include an awareness of what Mental Health/Ill Health means and how to recognise it; factors especially affecting young people; the impact of stigma; and looking at building resilience. Within some of the schools they have created psycho-educational groups which will provide a place where students can come together, express themselves and talk about problems in a safe, comfortable environment. The groups are highly participative and activity-based and teach young people coping strategies to help them manage their symptoms and conditions.
